Countertops in New Orleans

The great thing about designing a kitchen is that you get to design for both beauty and function.  Here at Orleans Kitchens, we are interested in helping you with all of your design choices, and we want you to get the look you desire while helping you make good decisions about how to use your space and resources.  And nothing makes a kitchen renovation look as polished as the choice of countertops and backsplashes.

STONE COUNTERTOPS

Countertops can be made out of a variety of materials. You will want to keep in mind your budget, your desired look, and the amount of traffic your kitchen gets over time when picking out a material for your countertops.  Orleans Kitchens’ team of experts can help you pick from a variety of materials including natural stone, engineered stone, wood, tile, recycled glass, concrete, stainless steel, and laminate.

For years, granite countertops have been the go-to for kitchen design.  The price of granite has significantly decreased as it has become a more popular choice for homeowners, and because granite comes in a variety of colors, shade, and striations, it fits in with many different design styles.  Granite also is resistant to heat, cuts, and scratches which makes it a beautiful and durable choice.  Those who like the look of granite may in fact like the look of other natural stones such as soapstone, limestone, and marble although these stones may be less cost effective than a traditional granite countertop kitchen.

ENGINEERED COUNTERTOPS

Over the last few years, many homeowners have been drawn to the look of engineered stone or material made from recycled glass for their countertops.  One very popular look is that of Quartz, an engineered stone that is very durable and comes in a variety of colors and variations; quartz can even have the look and veining of more expensive marble.  Quartz kitchens look very modern and sleek, and the material is designed to resist stains and scratching.  Similarly, recycled glass has a contemporary look as the type and look of the glass used to make the material varies piece by piece. Engineered countertops make a beautiful addition to a new kitchen interior design.

NON-TRADITIONAL COUNTERTOPS

Orleans Kitchens also has expertise in more non-traditional types of countertops as well and has designed kitchens with hardwood, stainless steel, or concrete.  These non-traditional materials are both functional and create a more distinct look than most traditional countertop materials.  Stainless steel and concrete countertops can give a space a more contemporary or industrial feel while countertops made of hardwood can bring out the earthy, homey feel of a space.

And if using one of these options is outside your budget, we can recommend a variety of laminates to cover your kitchen countertops.  Laminate come in a wide range of colors and looks and can fit in perfectly with the design of any kitchen.

BACKSPLASH

Backsplashes are vertical extensions of the counters of your kitchen that provide a barrier from water or grease or feed spatter while cooking.  Backsplashes are not only functional; they can be another beautiful design element in your new or remodeled kitchen. They can extend a few inches above cooking surfaces or sinks or take up the entire walls of kitchens.

Most backsplashes are tile but can be made out of the same material as the countertops in your home to give an overall polished look.  But to add another design element, you may want to use other popular options including glass mosaics, subway tile, or sheet glass which can give the look of a kitchen a more contemporary feel while increasing the design. Many people choose to update the look of their kitchen easily by adding a custom backsplash.
